What is Pendatang?

PENDATANG is a Malaysian thriller movie on the triumph of humanity over racial extremism in a dystopian future. It is Malaysia’s first fully crowdfunded movie that aims to share one of many perspectives on the possible impact and danger of racial politics on the lives of ordinary people.

It is planned to release on 21 December 2023 and will be shown for free on YouTube (with no advertising income). 

Synopsis

It is a dystopian thriller set in Malaysia where the different races are not allowed to mix, by force of draconian law.

The story starts when a Chinese family moves into their new "allocated" house and discovers a small Malay girl hiding there. Should they just ‘get rid’ of her and put her in mortal danger, or risk their own safety and lives by trying to smuggle her back to “the Malay area”?


 

PENDATANG FULL MOVIE

Set in a dystopian Malaysia in which different races are forbidden to mix. A Chinese family moves into their new house to find a scared Malay girl still hiding in it. Should they get rid of her or try to smuggle her back to safety?

 

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Ng Ken Kin made his first short film in 2003. One of his subsequent shorts, The Other One, won Filem Pendek Terbaik at Festival Filem Malaysia ke-24 (2011). He also contributed a segment "Horror Mission" in the YouTube omnibus Three Doors of Horror in 2013. He directed numerous TV series including 5 JIngga, Geng Bas Sekolah, Kapten Boleh, Ghaib; as well as the telemovie Laksam Girl. PENDATANG is his feature film directorial debut.
